The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Prof. Dr. Ferdinand K. Piëch, has been appointed to the Honorary Senate of the Foundation for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings. By this appointment, the Foundation honored his commitment to the promotion of science and excellence both in Germany and internationally. The Honorary Senate advises the Foundation’s Board of Directors and includes representatives of the scientific, business and political communities.

Professor Piëch was honored on July 1, 2012, by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schürer, during the 62nd Nobel Laureate Meeting in Lindau. Schürer underlined: „Innovation and excellence are the hallmarks of Professor Ferdinand K. Piëch’s lifetime achievements.” He added that his approach focused not just on research and development but especially on their application. New materials and fuel-efficient motors were only two prime examples among many. Professor Piëch’s achievements bore witness to his drive both for excellence in research and for sustainability.
